When AI Becomes Better at the Work: A Leadership Challenge for Healthcare
As AI transforms the work of medicine, healthcare leaders must intentionally develop the uniquely human capabilities that technology cannot replace.
This provocative JAMA perspective challenges one of healthcare’s most deeply held assumptions: that AI will primarily support physicians rather than fundamentally change the physician's role. The authors argue that AI is already matching or exceeding physicians in several core cognitive tasks, raising important questions about what the future of clinical practice will require.
