About the Healthcare Leadership Foundation
Developing Ethical Leaders Who Heal Healthcare
The Healthcare Leadership Foundation (HLF) develops, inspires, and supports ethical leaders of character committed to serving others—advancing patient-centered healthcare, promoting health, and enhancing societal well-being.
Our vision is a healthcare system led by compassionate, capable, and collaborative physicians who create high-performing teams and deliver care that honors both science and humanity.
Born from a Proven Model of Leadership Education
HLF grew out of more than two decades of leadership development in medicine through the Feagin Leadership Program at Duke University. The program demonstrated that when physicians are taught to lead with self-awareness, integrity, and purpose, entire systems improve.
Building on that foundation, HLF was established as a national nonprofit to expand this proven model, supporting programs, institutions, and individuals dedicated to transforming the culture of healthcare.
The Foundation of Our Work
Ethical Leadership: Acting with integrity and humility in every decision.
Patient-Centeredness: Keeping patients and their families at the heart of leadership.
Service to Others: Leading through empathy and a spirit of contribution.
Collaboration Across Disciplines: Building teams that bridge medicine, business, and society.
Commitment to Continuous Learning: Pursuing growth, reflection, and excellence for life.
