Leadership Is Developed, Not Discovered: HLF's Approach
HLF develops healthcare leaders through intentional, longitudinal experiences that combine new knowledge, reflection, practice, coaching, mentorship, and team-based projects.
The Leader Development Approach
HLF develops leaders through intentional, longitudinal, and immersive experiences. The approach includes:
The Developmental Cycle: Training follows a specific cycle of "New Knowledge," "Reflection," and practical "Experiences".
Intentionality: The program operates on the belief that leadership is not purely innate and must be "intentional, planned, modeled, and practiced".
Core Curricular Components:
Seminars and Workshops: Interactive sessions covering topics such as difficult conversations, networking, and executive presence.
Individual Coaching: Personalized guidance to help scholars integrate leadership styles into their own professional experience.
Team-Based Projects: Collaborative "capstone" projects that allow for the practical application of leadership skills in a multidisciplinary setting.
Mentorship: Emphasized as a foundation for leader development and a necessity for transmitting professional identity.
Vulnerability and Humility: Facilitators are encouraged to "disarm" learners by showing vulnerability and creating a non-hierarchical learning environment in which leaders are willing to learn about their own behavioral tendencies.
