Doctors, as they go through training, often get worse at understanding patients' subjective experience of illness; the doctors' expertise blinds them to patients' experience of suffering and their empathy declines. They give privilege to objective information about patients over subjective information from patients. They are more likely to treat patients as diagnoses, as objects.
